Our Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum is a text based curriculum; it uses high quality books to inspire, drive and shape the learning over the year. Pathways to Write is the resource used to plan and sequence the lessons.

Cultural Capital

At St Joseph’s we wish to construct a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to give all learners the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

We want to ensure our pupils gain the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said and helping them to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement

Woven throughout our curriculum are constant opportunities to teach and promote Cultural Capital. For example through -

  • Text choices

  • Music playing throughout the school - ‘Composer of the week’ with accompanying study notes

  • Weekly Newsround session to discuss and debate global news and events

  • Developing Vocabulary

  • Excellent manners and behaviour
